Community Activities


Staff Working GroupStaff Working Group:
From 2009, HSBC Vietnam decided to give staffs opportunities to take personal responsibility for their community by developing their own CS projects through its Staff Working Group programme. Staff members propose initiatives that would benefit the environment, help educate disadvantaged children or improve the livelihoods of people within their communities. In 2010, ten grass-roots projects from 13 various departments targeting different groups through a wide range of activities were selected, and over 1,206,713 Vietnamese in the local community stood to benefit. For example, one group collected donated books to four schools and shelters and helped them to set up a library; and another group showcased the artistic talents of hearing-impaired and speech-impaired children through a charity exhibition at our banking hall, or nursery room construction in Don Xuan kindergarten in Tra Vinh province, hygiene system in Dao Xa primary school in Phu Tho province, and health check up in Tan Phuoc commune, Lagi District, Binh Phuoc province and Luong Nhon hamlet, My Luong commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province.


Christmas party for disadvantaged childrenChristmas party for disadvantaged children:
In December 2010, more than 250 physically disadvantaged youngsters celebrated Christmas at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School for the Visually Impaired with HSBC Vietnam. 2010 year marks the fifth consecutive year that HSBC has organised a party at the school. These children had an unforgettable Christmas party night of joyful songs, fun games and gifts from the HSBC staff.


Tet gifts donationTet gifts donation:
HSBC Vietnam has initiative to collect the gifts that departments received and from staff's donation to present to those in need. In 2011 Tet holiday, HSBC staff collected 480 fresh milk cartons, 104 hampers and a cash donation of VND 10,640,000. These gifts were delivered to Binh Minh Shelter and Nhi Dong I Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City; Thuan An nursing home for the disadvantaged elderly people in Binh Duong; and the Cardiac Hospital and National Hospital of Pediatrics in Hanoi. This annual activity brings joy to many disadvantaged children and families during this special time of year.


International Children's DayInternational Children's Day:
On 30 May 2010, HSBC, in partnership with HUFLIT University, held a Children's Day party for disadvantaged children in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City. Over 70 kids ?njoyed drawing and took part in a competition on how to classify household garbage. Many candies, gifts and scholarships were also given out to the youngsters. HSBC Vietnam hopes that by sharing this fun experience with them and showing how much we care, we were able to bring some happiness to the lives of these disadvantaged children.


Blood Donation Day:Blood Donation Day:
On 2 October 2010, 65 HSBC blood donors joined the Blood Donation Day organised by the Saigon Times Group and the Vietnam Red Cross chapter in HCMC. HSBC Vietnam has taken action for this cause in three consecutive years since 2008.


Old Toy for New JoyOld Toy for New Joy:
HSBC Vietnam called for all HSBC staff, customers and members of the public to donate pre-loved toys at the bank's branches and transaction offices in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Can Tho. From 15 to 21 September, the bank collected more than 1,000 toys which were carefully sorted, assessed for safety and suitability, spruced up and then delivered to some of Vietnam's most underprivileged youths at six shelters nationwide on occasion of Mid Autumn. The Bank staff also organised six very special Mid-Autumn Festival parties for the children at these shelters.


Fun RunFun Run:
HSBC has been a gold sponsor for the "Fun Run", organised by the British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV), for 11 years in a row since its inception in 1999. Proceeds from the Fun Run are donated to underprivileged children and children's charity organisations in and around Ho Chi Minh City. Four-hundred HSBC staff participated alongside customers, relatives and friends in the 2010 Run.


Saigon Cyclo ChallengeSaigon Cyclo Challenge:
HSBC Vietnam has been a Gold Sponsor and active participant in Saigon Cyclo Challenge for eleven consecutive years since the very first race in 2001. The funds raised through yearly events were donated to Saigon Children's Charity, an organisation with a strong focus on education and which provides schooling, food and aid to thousands of poor and orphaned children in the South of Vietnam.
