On 1 January 2009, with the approval of the State Bank of Vietnam, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited established a 100% foreign owned bank in Vietnam named HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd. on the basis of its Ho Chi Minh City Branch. The HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd. received all the legal rights and obligations from the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and has been in smooth operation since then. In the first half of 2014, HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd. has increased its charter capital from VND3,000 billion to VND7,528 billion in order to better serve the customers and to demonstrate HSBC's long term commitment in Vietnam.
