Economics Data Reaction - SBV delivers another 100bp cut

Thanks to slowing inflation, the central bank delivered another 100 bp cut to main policy rates. But the issue with sluggish credit growth in Vietnam is not supply but demand driven. To materially raise sluggish credit demand, the central bank will need to instill confidence and resolve the bad debt issue. Unless it unveils concrete plans to reform the banking and state-owned sectors, Vietnam will continue to rely on exports to drive up aggregate demand and the recovery process will be a gradual one. We expect the OMO rate to stay steady after this cut.

HSBC Holdings Plc - First Quarter 2013 - Results Highlights

Reported profit before tax ('PBT') for the first quarter of 2013 ('1Q13') was US$8.4bn, up 95% compared with the first quarter of 2012 ('1Q12'). This included adverse movements of US$0.2bn on the fair value of our own debt (1Q12: US$2.6bn) and gains of US$1.1bn from disposals and the reclassification of an associate (1Q12: US$0.2m).
